02. Intake Session

What is an Intake Session?

An Intake Session is a 60 minute meeting where we will have a conversation about what you are struggling with, and how we can help you. It’s an opportunity for your therapist to ask questions in a way that will help us understand what you are experiencing and what’s important to you. This is an important way to begin collaborating on identifying your goals, what matters to you most, and what is holding you back.

03. The Therapy Journey

Free Consultation

The free consultation is a 15 minute phone consultation with Tonya Swartzendruber, LMHC to determine if working with us is a good fit for you.

Intake Session

This is a 60 minute meeting to discuss your current symptoms, relevant background information, and your goals for therapy. Before your first appointment you will receive questionnaires to complete. In order to get the most out of the first appointment, your therapist will review these questionnaires ahead of time. At the end of the first appointment, your therapist will provide their assessment of the concerns you are bringing to therapy, and discuss treatment options. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best option for your goals.

Ongoing Therapy

Typically, clients meet with us once a week, once a treatment plan has been established. There are times when more intensive therapy (2-3 times a week) is recommended based on severity of symptoms, or preference of client. Typically appointments are scheduled for 45 minutes per session. Each therapy session typically includes a review of at home practice, introduction of a new skill or idea, practicing that skill in session and establishing a structure for practicing the skill at home. The therapy approaches we provide are active, and typically involve practice in between sessions. We believe this approach helps clients progress more quickly toward their goals.

Progress & Therapy Completion

Treatment progress is assessed through a combination of therapist assessment, client reports of progress, tracking of behavior change and assessment measures. The therapy approach we use is often shorter term, and focused on getting you back into life as soon as possible.

Maintaining Progress

Once you and your therapist determine you have met your goals for therapy, your therapist will discuss with you the process of ending treatment and develop a plan for maintaining your progress. Typically ending treatment is a gradual process with sessions spaced to every two weeks or once a month for a period of time to ensure treatment progress is maintained without weekly sessions.
