Tonya Swartzendruber, LMHC (New York) LPC (New Jersey)
As a therapist I’m curious to understand what’s most important to my clients, and how they are struggling to move towards those things. My approach is collaborative, transparent and always respectful toward my client’s experiences and perspectives throughout the therapy process.
I specialize in evidence based treatments for stress, anxiety, and worry. In my practice I treat OCD, panic, generalized anxiety, and phobias. My approach integrates behavioral treatments, including exposure therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness Based interventions.

Mainstream conversations about mental health often leave people feeling like they’re not normal if they’re struggling, and that there is something wrong with them if they don’t feel happy all of the time. Our approach is to normalize that life can be hard, and feeling stressed and anxious is often a healthy response to challenges. Our view is that learning how to harness the power of our emotional reactions allows us to respond more effectively to challenges and shift focus to building meaningful lives.
